Senate Panel OKs Kagan With 1 Republican Vote

Law360, New York (July 20, 2010, 12:47 PM EDT) -- The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to serve on the nation's highest court Tuesday, with Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., breaking GOP ranks to vote for a nominee he described as “a loyal American.”

The 13-6 vote otherwise fell along party lines, with Republicans such as Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., accusing Kagan of dodging the committee's questions during her confirmation hearing.
