10th Circ. Tosses Bias Suit Against Catholic Church

Law360, New York (July 13, 2010, 7:11 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has upheld the use of the “ministerial exception” and tossed an employment suit that claimed an allegedly misogynistic bishop of the Roman Catholic diocese in Tulsa, Okla., fired a high-level administrator to replace her with young men.

The exception protects the church from legal review of its hiring and firing decisions, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit ruled Tuesday.
