Sens. Unveil Bipartisan Bill To Promote Cleaner Coal

Law360, New York (July 15, 2010, 1:56 PM EDT) -- Senate Commerce Committee chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., and Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, have introduced legislation that aims to keep coal in the clean energy mix by promoting research, development and deployment of full-scale carbon capture and storage technologies.

The Carbon Capture and Storage Deployment Act of 2010, or S. 3591, was unveiled in the Senate on Wednesday and represents the first-ever comprehensive legislative attempt to realize widespread commercial deployment of CCS technologies to help deal with carbon emissions from burning coal, according to its coal-state sponsors....
