EU Lawmakers Urge Turkey To Lift Tariffs, Other Barriers

Law360, New York (July 15, 2010, 2:54 PM EDT) -- European legislators have called on Turkey to lift the remaining tariffs and other barriers to trade with the European Union in order to improve trade relations and negotiations to bring the country into the 27-nation bloc.

Though trade between the two governments is currently at "an advanced level," Turkey needs to take several steps to boost relations, including making the mechanisms for the EU-Turkey customs union "fully functional" and simplifying its bureaucracy, according to a nonlegislative report that the EU Parliament's International Trade Committee approved 23-2...
