Total UK To Pay $9.5M Over 2005 Fuel Depot Blast

Law360, New York (July 16, 2010, 1:59 PM EDT) -- A British court ordered a unit of French oil giant Total SA on Friday to pay £6.2 million ($9.5 million) for its role in a 2005 fuel depot blast that U.K. regulators described as the country's costliest industrial disaster ever.

Justice David Calvert-Smith of the St. Albans Crown Court ordered Total UK to pay a £3.6 million ($5.5 million) fine and £2.6 million ($3.9 million) in prosecution costs in connection to a criminal case over the blast at the Buncefield Oil Storage Depot, Total said....
