OSHA Fines DuPont For Gas Leak Death

Law360, New York (July 20, 2010, 12:35 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fined DuPont Co. $43,000 for exposing workers at a plant in Belle, W.Va., to hazardous chemicals, following the death of a worker in January from a fatal exposure to phosgene gas.

OSHA cited DuPont on Monday for six serious violations relating to the plant's handling of several gases.

The agency began investigating DuPont following the Jan. 23 phosgene leak, when a transfer hose failed and exposed a worker who wasn't wearing protective gear to the deadly gas....
