SAP Wins EU Approval For $6B Sybase Merger

Law360, New York (July 20, 2010, 7:10 PM EDT) -- German business management software maker SAP AG has won approval from Europe's competition regulators for its $5.8 billion acquisition of the U.S. software vendor Sybase Inc.

The European Commission announced Tuesday that it had approved the deal under the European Union's merger regulations, saying the transaction “would not significantly impede effective competition” in Europe.

SAP had to extend its purchase offer — priced at $65 per share for outstanding Sybase common stock — at least twice while it waited for regulatory approval from the EC....
