SEC Drops Civil Claims V. Jailed Lobbyist, Broker

Law360, New York (July 21, 2010, 6:45 PM EDT) -- Effectively bringing the case to a close, a federal judge has agreed to drop civil penalties in a suit brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission against a former lobbyist and an investment banker who pled guilty to bribing a former Alabama mayor in relation to municipal bond deals.

Judge Abdul Kallon of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama issued the order July 14, leaving in place a series of injunctions against further violations of securities laws by ex-lobbyist Albert LaPierre...
