Steptoe Tossed From Sunbeam Blender Patent Suit

Law360, New York (July 26, 2010, 5:26 PM EDT) -- Sunbeam Products Inc. will have to find new lawyers to handle its suit accusing several rivals of infringing two blender technology patents following a federal judge's decision to disqualify Steptoe & Johnson LLP.

Judge Robert E. Payne of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia disqualified Steptoe because Andrew Chen — a Steptoe associate who is not on the case — prosecuted several related patents for defendant Homeland Housewares LLC while employed by its counsel Cislo & Thomas LLP.
