Pennsylvania Judge Clears Utility Merger

Law360, New York (February 12, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- An administrative law judge has recommended the approval of a $1 billion merger of two Pennsylvania gas companies, a deal that’s currently being investigated by the Pennsylvania attorney general and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission for its potentially anti-competitive effects.

Judge John H. Corbett recommended that the Public Utility Commission approve the $970 million merger of Equitable Resources Inc. and Dominion Peoples Gas. If given state and federal clearance, the deal will create the biggest natural gas distribution company in Pennsylvania.
