Study Finds Avandia, Actos Linked To Fractures

Law360, New York (July 30, 2010, 6:51 PM EDT) -- A new medical study has linked diabetes drugs including Avandia and Actos with an increased risk of fractures among older women, marking the latest blow to GlaxoSmithKline PLC's Avandia as regulators debate whether to keep the drug on the market.

The study, announced Thursday by the Endocrine Society, also found that men could be at an increased risk of fractures if they're taking both loop diuretics and Avandia, Actos or another drug in the class of drugs known as thiazolidinediones, or TZDs.
