United Arab Emirates To Block BlackBerry Services

Law360, New York (August 2, 2010, 5:18 PM EDT) -- The United Arab Emirates has decided to suspend Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry services in the country, contending that the smartphones run afoul of state telecommunications regulations and jeopardize national security.

The United Arab Emirates' Telecommunications Regulatory Authority said Sunday that it would suspend BlackBerry messenger, e-mail and Web browsing as of Oct. 11, after nearly three years of failed attempts to ensure that the services comply with its telecommunications regulations.
