Sierra Club Wins Early Injunction On Fla. Strip Mine

Law360, New York (August 2, 2010, 5:39 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has granted the Sierra Club and other environmental groups' request for a preliminary injunction to prevent Mosaic Fertilizer LLC from strip mining phosphate at a 10,800-acre site in central Florida, while the company quickly appealed the ruling.

Judge Henry Lee Adams Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida ruled Friday that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approved the strip mining permit before fully considering alternatives with less environmental damage, in violation of the Clean Water Act....
