3rd Circ. Upholds Prison Co.'s Muslim Head Scarf Ban

Law360, New York (August 3, 2010, 11:02 AM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has affirmed a lower court's decision that prison company The GEO Group Inc. did not violate prohibitions on religious discrimination when it refused to allow female Muslim employees to wear traditional head coverings at work.

In a split ruling Monday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit shot down the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's challenge of a district court finding that an exception to GEO's dress code would cause the company undue hardship by compromising security and safety....
