Groups Ask EPA To Ban Lead Ammo, Fishing Tackle

Law360, New York (August 3, 2010, 5:43 PM EDT) -- The Center for Biological Diversity and other conservation groups filed a petition Tuesday asking the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to ban the use of toxic lead in hunting ammunition and fishing tackle.

The groups claimed the lead poisons bald eagles, trumpeter swans and other wild animals that eat spent lead-shot pellets or pick at the carcasses of animals that have been shot and contaminated with lead bullet fragments.
