France, Netherlands To Review Public Transit Combo

Law360, New York (August 12, 2010, 4:56 PM EDT) -- The European Commission on Thursday sent national antitrust regulators in France and the Netherlands part of its review of plans for France's Veolia Environnement and la Caisse des Depots to merge their transportation units, citing concerns about the public passenger transit markets in the two countries.

The French and Dutch competition regulators had requested the referrals, and the commission said its preliminary investigation showed that the joint venture would involve substantial overlap, especially in the public transport markets.
