Aspen Snaps Up Sigma Pharma Unit In $816M Deal

Law360, New York (August 17, 2010, 2:52 PM EDT) -- Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Ltd. has agreed to shell out AU$900 million ($816 million) to acquire the pharmaceutical business of Australia's Sigma Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a move the South African drug giant said would help expand its footprint in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Sigma unit manufactures and markets prescription, over-the-counter and generic pharmaceutical products and also acts as a wholesale distributor of pharmaceutical and consumer products, Aspen said Monday.
