Gas Company Files $561M Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (February 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Independent gas company GeoMet Inc. has filed a $561 million antitrust lawsuit against Island Creek Coal Company and subsidiary CNX Gas Company LLC, accusing the companies of monopolizing the coalbed methane gas market.

GeoMet accused CNX of launching “a campaign to assimilate or eliminate” GeoMet by charging higher than competitive prices to transport GeoMet’s gas, attempting to extract anti-competitive concessions and impeding GeoMet’s construction of a pipeline that would compete with a CNX pipeline.
