Cheese Maker Strikes Deal Over Water Pollution Claims

Law360, New York (August 19, 2010, 1:06 PM EDT) -- Cheese maker Sorrento Lactalis Inc. has agreed to pay $315,000 to resolve claims brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency that it discharged excess levels of pollutants into a creek near its Idaho wastewater treatment plant.

The DOJ and the EPA lodged a complaint and stipulation of settlement simultaneously Wednesday regarding Sorrento, a U.S. subsidiary of global dairy giant Groupe Lactalis, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho.
