PPG To Pay W.Va. $1.3M Over Ohio River Pollution

Law360, New York (August 20, 2010, 3:10 PM EDT) -- PPG Industries Inc. has agreed to pay more than $1.3 million in civil penalties to settle a suit brought by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection alleging the company dumped toxins from a manufacturing plant into the Ohio River.

The Pennsylvania-based chemical and glass supplier will shell out $1.02 million in fines to the WVDEP, plus $350,000 for agency-backed supplemental environmental projects, which will include a three-year waste cleanup operation, according to a consent order approved Wednesday by Judge David Hummel of the Marshall County...
