EU Court Suspends Canadian Seal Import Ban

Law360, New York (August 19, 2010, 6:46 PM EDT) -- Facing challenges from a Canadian Inuit group, a European Union court suspended the near-total ban on the import of seal products into EU countries Thursday, just one day before the rule was set to take effect.

Marc Jaeger, the president of the European General Court, issued an order stopping the proposed seal ban regulation from taking effect based on a lawsuit filed in January by the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, an association representing Inuit living in Canada.
