HHS Needs Clear Plan To Protect Patient Privacy

Law360, New York (February 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Department of Health and Human Services should define and implement an overall approach for protecting health information as it promotes the use of electronic records, according to a recent report by Congressional investigators.

In the report, issued this month, the Government Accountability Office recommends that HHS establish a clear plan with milestones while also acknowledging the challenges the government faces in setting up a network for health care providers and other to share patient information.
