Enzyme Patent Dispute Settled For $8.2M

Law360, New York (February 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Danish biotech company Danisco A/S will pay rival Novozymes A/S over $8.2 million to settle an ongoing patent infringement suit after a district court judge ruled Monday that Danisco willfully infringed Novozymes’ patent for the enzyme Spezyme Ethyl.

After two bench trials, U.S. District Court Judge Kent A. Jordan said because Danisco subsidiary Genencor International Inc. willfully infringed Novozymes’ patent, the plaintiff was entitled to double damages and reasonable attorneys’ fees.
