DOT Wants $1M Fine Against Marathon For Fatal Blast

Law360, New York (August 25, 2010, 12:42 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has proposed a more than $1 million civil fine against a unit of Marathon Oil Co. for a pipeline failure that killed one worker and injured three others.

The DOT's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration suggested the penalty against Marathon Pipe Line Co. following an investigation into a March 2009 blast at a facility in Vacherie, La., the department said Tuesday.
