NHTSA Probes Fuel Tank Fire Hazard In Jeep SUVs

Law360, New York (August 25, 2010, 2:50 PM EDT) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation to determine whether Chrysler Group LLC's Jeep Grand Cherokees with fuel tanks behind the rear axle pose a fire hazard for drivers.

The NHTSA on Monday opened the probe into Grand Cherokees from model years 1993 to 2004 in response to a petition from the Center for Auto Safety, which claims the vehicles should be taken off the road.
