E.U. Delays Vote On Software Patents

Law360, New York (August 5, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Council has postponed formal voting on a “common position” on a controversial directive on software patents, a key part of the European Union’s efforts to overhaul the patent system across the region.

A spokeswoman for the Dutch government, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the E.U., told the Financial Times’ German edition that the vote by the European Council on the draft “Directive on the Patentability of Computer-Implemented Inventions” had been postponed until “October, or November at the latest” due to a scarcity...
