Germany Plans False Ad Suit Against GM's Opel

Law360, New York (August 30, 2010, 5:16 PM EDT) -- Germany's competition watchdog is reportedly planning to sue General Motors Co.'s German subsidiary Adam Opel GmbH in the wake of failed negotiations to resolve a dispute over the carmaker's ads touting lifetime warranties for new vehicles.

Germany's Center for Protection against Unfair Competition, or Wettbewerbszentrale, said it would call on the courts to decide whether Opel engaged in false marketing by advertising a lifetime warranty that applied only up to 160,000 kilometers, German newspaper The Rheinische Post reported Monday.
