Mobil Class Suit Stays In Mariana Islands Federal Court

Law360, New York (September 1, 2010, 5:27 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has declined to remand to a commonwealth court a putative class action alleging Mobil Oil Mariana Islands Inc. failed to take necessary steps to prevent hazardous chemicals from entering the environment in the Northern Mariana Islands.

Judge David Carter said in an order Tuesday that the case will remain in the U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands because several of the plaintiffs’ claims involve the Clean Air Act and federal regulations and concern a distinctly federal issue.
