S. Africa Targets Goodyear, Others In Tire Cartel Case

Law360, New York (September 8, 2010, 4:21 PM EDT) -- South Africa's competition watchdog has moved to fine several tire manufacturers — including local units of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and Continental AG — for allegedly coordinating price hikes for their products for almost a decade.

The Competition Commission sent its complaint against the manufacturers and the South African Tyre Manufacturers Conference (Pty) Ltd. to the country's Competition Tribunal, asking for fines of about 10 percent of each company's total turnover, the regulator said Monday.
