EU Targets Short-Selling, OTC Derivatives

Law360, New York (September 15, 2010, 2:18 PM EDT) -- The European Commission proposed regulations Wednesday that would give it the power to ban short-selling and require over-the-counter derivatives to be traded through central clearinghouses.

The proposals are aimed at bringing greater transparency to the derivative trading activity that has been blamed for many of the losses that contributed to the financial crisis, according to the European Union competition regulator.
