DOT Pledges Higher Fines For Pipeline Safety

Law360, New York (September 15, 2010, 1:13 PM EDT) -- Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood has unveiled new legislation and $5.9 million in research funding in an effort to strengthen the safety and oversight of the nation's pipeline infrastructure following recent oil spills and a natural gas explosion in California.

LaHood sent the proposed legislation to Congress on Wednesday, and rolled out the new funding on Tuesday.
