Meridian Settles EPA Suit Over Abandoned Waste

Law360, New York (September 20, 2010, 11:54 AM EDT) -- Textile manufacturer Meridian Industries Inc. has agreed to pay $900,000 to settle claims the company abandoned more than 300 containers of hazardous waste at a former mill in North Carolina.

Meridian proposed the settlement Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, filing the agreement alongside a complaint alleging the company violated federal and state environmental laws by leaving behind dangerous chemicals when it sold the facility in September 2008.
