E.C. Threatens To Fine Microsoft Again

Law360, New York (March 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Europe’s competition watchdog has warned Microsoft Corp. it could face even more fines, accusing the software giant of charging excessive licensing fees for the interoperability data regulators ordered it to make available to competitors.

The European Commission said on Thursday that it had sent a statement of objections to Microsoft. The statement expresses the preliminary view that Microsoft’s interoperability information contains “no significant innovation,” and thus, Microsoft’s proposed prices for licensing are too high.
