Ritzy Newport, RI, Hit With Sewage Overflow Suit

Law360, New York (September 24, 2010, 5:19 PM EDT) -- The U.S. and the state of Rhode Island have sued the city of Newport, the tony getaway and home of the famed annual jazz festival, for allegedly discharging waste water into the Narraganset Bay from unauthorized discharge points, in violation of the city's Clean Water Act permits.

The state and federal government filed their own complaint Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island, seeking to intervene in a case initially brought by a local environmental group, in July of 2008....
