CalPortland Settles Clean Air Permit Allegations

Law360, New York (September 27, 2010, 6:11 PM EDT) -- Concrete and construction supply giant CalPortland Co. has agreed to pay a $350,000 civil penalty to settle allegations that it made upgrades to an Arizona cement manufacturing plant without the proper air quality permits.

CalPortland also must either construct a new cement kiln and shut down other kilns or install new control measures on selected pieces of existing equipment including kilns, according to the consent decree the U.S. Department of Justice filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.
