Chavez Floats South America Gas Cartel

Law360, New York (March 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a move to weaken U.S. influence further, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has reportedly called on neighboring countries to join him in the creation of a South America natural gas cartel.

Addressing the nation on his weekly radio show “Hello President,” Chavez said he had been in discussions with Argentine President Nestor Kirchner about establishing a coalition of gas-producing countries.
