QLT, Novartis Settle Patent Dispute With Hospitals

Law360 (March 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A tug-of-war over patented photodynamic therapy used to treat eye conditions will go to an arbitrator after two Massachusetts hospitals and two biopharmaceutical companies agreed to settle a patent infringement lawsuit Monday.

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Massachusetts General Hospital, Novartis Ophthalmics Inc. and QLT Inc. agreed to dismiss their claims against each other and hand their dispute to an arbitrator, QLT said. The outcome of the arbitration will have no effect on the settlement, which did not include any money.
