WTO Says US Ban On Chinese Poultry Violated Rules

Law360, New York (September 29, 2010, 3:11 PM EDT) -- A World Trade Organization panel on Wednesday declared that a U.S. ban on Chinese poultry violated international trade laws, but made no corrective recommendations, noting that the rule implementing the ban had since expired.

The three-member panel held that a 2009 appropriations bill barring the U.S. Department of Agriculture from using funds to establish a rule allowing poultry imports from China violated a WTO agreement on sanitary and phytosanitary measures, as well as certain articles of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of 1994....
