Infant Deaths Prompt Warning On Sleep Positioners

Law360, New York (September 29, 2010, 6:23 PM EDT) -- Federal product safety regulators are warning parents to stop using infant sleep positioners amid renewed concerns that babies placed in the bolstered mats could suffocate.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Wednesday issued a joint statement condemning the positioners, which are intended to keep babies on their backs while sleeping.

The agencies said that over the past 13 years, they have received 12 reports of infants who died when they suffocated in sleep positioners or when they were trapped...
