Greek Shipping Co. Fined $700K In Oil-Dumping Case

Law360, New York (September 30, 2010, 3:08 PM EDT) -- Greek shipping company Stanships Inc. has been ordered to pay a $700,000 criminal fine for intentionally dumping oil in the Gulf of Mexico and falsifying ship records to conceal the discharges.

Judge Ginger Berrigan of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana sentenced the company at a hearing Wednesday, about three months after Stanships pled guilty to violations of the Clean Water Act and the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships.
