Supreme Court Won't Hear Philippines Pollution Case

Law360, New York (October 5, 2010, 11:34 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a challenge to the jurisdiction of a suit brought against a company absorbed by Barrick Gold Corp. that stands accused of causing a mining disaster that heavily polluted a Philippines island.

The high court on Monday denied certiorari to Placer Dome Inc., dealing the mining company a setback in its efforts to change jurisdictions in the case.
