Duke Reaches Nuclear Fuel Settlement With DOJ

Law360 (March 6, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Duke Energy Corp. unit has struck a deal with the U.S. Department of Justice to settle the company’s lawsuit against the Department of Energy over used nuclear fuel storage costs.

Duke Energy Carolinas said Tuesday it will collect $56 million for storage costs it incurred for more than a year and a half as part of the settlement. Duke will also receive annual reimbursements for future storage expenses.

The company said it had to pay higher storage costs on its nuclear stations since July 2005...
