USPTO Introduces New Metrics For Quality Control

Law360, New York (October 8, 2010, 12:56 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has adopted new procedures to measure the quality of its patent examinations, including the use of surveys of patent applicants and lawyers in the process.

The new procedures, crafted by a joint USPTO-Patent Public Advisory Committee Task Force, measure a total of seven factors, in order to build a more complete picture of the quality of the current patent examination process, the agency said Thursday in announcing the changes.

The new procedures will be implemented for fiscal year 2011....
