Steering Committee Appointed In Oil Spill MDL

Law360, New York (October 8, 2010, 7:17 PM EDT) -- A federal judge chose 15 plaintiffs' lawyers Friday to lead the Deepwater Horizon multidistrict litigation, putting them in line to collect more fees than the dozens of other lawyers working on the case.

Judge Carl J. Barbier of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana received more than 100 applications to serve on the plaintiffs steering committee, which will conduct discovery, examine witnesses, introduce evidence at hearings, explore settlement options and coordinate trial teams for bellwether cases, among other things.
