E.C. Mulls Fresh Approach To Unbundling

Law360, New York (March 8, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Facing mounting opposition from energy firms, the European Union's competition watchdog is reportedly mulling alternatives to its proposals to increase competition in the energy sector by forcing companies to unbundle their production and distribution capabilities.

The European Commission is considering an option that would establish regional grid operators by allowing energy companies to put independent operators in charge of grids while still retaining ownership, the Financial Times reported Wednesday.
