Canada Adds BPA To List Of Toxic Substances

Law360, New York (October 13, 2010, 4:27 PM EDT) -- The Canadian government on Wednesday added bisphenol A to its list of toxic substances, paving the way for the country to use existing laws to regulate the additive, which is used in a range of consumer products and packaging but is suspected of posing health risks to humans.

The expected move was hailed by the Toronto-based environmental group Environmental Defence, which says the substance mimics the hormone estrogen and causes reproductive damage that may lead to prostate and breast cancer, among other ailments.
