DOL Moves To Limit Mine Coal Dust Exposure

Law360, New York (October 15, 2010, 3:44 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration is proposing to phase in tougher limits on mine coal dust exposure as part of its ongoing campaign to reduce cases of black lung among U.S. miners.

The proposed rule, released Thursday, would combine several regulatory initiatives to lower coal mine dust exposure, including requirements for plan verification and the use of continuous personal dust monitors, as well as the implementation of recommendations from recent studies detailing the hazards it poses to miners' health.
