Most Shipping Cos. Complying With New Rules: GAO

Law360, New York (October 15, 2010, 5:33 PM EDT) -- About 80 percent of ocean-based cargo shipments are in compliance with new U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations requiring importers to provide the government with more information before shipping cargo by sea, a new report has found.

The Government Accountability Office report on the so-called “10+2” rule on cargo shipped by sea states that enforcement via inspections and shipment holds has not impacted overall trade flow.
