AIG Seeks To Avoid Coverage In MGA Bratz IP Spat

Law360, New York (October 18, 2010, 2:57 PM EDT) -- Subsidiaries of American International Group Inc. are seeking to duck coverage for an epic intellectual property battle between Bratz doll maker MGA Entertainment Inc. and Mattel Inc., which accuses its rival of essentially stealing the idea for the widely popular toy.

The subsidiaries, including Lexington Insurance Co.; National Union Fire Insurance Co. of Pittsburgh, Pa.; American International Underwriters Insurance Co.; and Chartis Specialty Insurance Co., filed their lawsuit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
