WTO Head Warns Nations Over Currency Dispute

Law360, New York (October 19, 2010, 4:59 PM EDT) -- The head of the World Trade Organization warned Tuesday that the growing international dispute over currency policy could pose a threat to global efforts to recover from the economic downturn, criticizing efforts to gain advantage by manipulating exchange rates as "short-sighted."

Though resolving the dispute may eventually fall to the International Monetary Fund rather than to the WTO, rapid changes in relative currency values could nonetheless jeopardize renewed trade growth efforts, WTO Director General Pascal Lamy told the Trade Negotiations Committee at its meeting Tuesday....
